January – Mindfulness

If you have been reading my blog for the last month or so you will know that in 2019 I am starting my own happiness project.. inspired by Gretchen Rubin and HER happiness project! If you are not sure what I am talking about.. head on over to gretchenrubin.com and check out what she has to offer!

Anyway.. in some of my previous posts I chatted about the themes for the twelve months, and in this post I am going to talk about my resolutions around the theme ‘mindfulness’.

I chose mindfulness to be my theme for January because it is just coming out of the busy holiday season and I know my brain and body are going to be tired from all the holiday parties, and seeing all those people. So, to help me ease into the year I decided January should be a month of living in the present and really being grateful for everything I have. I have four resolutions for the month:

  1. Meditate and journal to begin my day – this is something that I am starting now, but I know I will need it more than ever in January. This means that before I even turn my wifi on in the morning I must spend at least 40 minutes journaling out my feelings and meditating with prayers and my crystals. This will make me feel aligned for the day, and ultimately make me more present throughout my workday.
  2. Dance naked – this activity is going to do many things for my body. The first is that dancing naked allows the lymph tissues in breasts to circulate more readily throughout the body. Through dance, any tension I carry in my breasts can be dissolved, decreasing my risk for breast cancer. Another amazing benefit is that it will allow me to be present in my body at least one time out of the day. It will allow me to love my body the way it is, and show appreciation for all that it does for me.
  3. Listen to music once a day MAX – music is amazing. It can really help you validate your feelings, and get out your emotions that you may feel are stuck inside you. However, it is also mindless. Music is something that you do not have to actively listen to, and in some regards it can also be harmful, if the lyrics are not empowering. So in January I vow to only listen once a day. That means if I want to listen to it in the car, I have to listen to a podcast when I workout. Or if I feel like I need music to motivate me throughout my workout, I will listen to a training when I am driving. This way I can make sure I am more intentional about what I put into my mind, and I am more present to what I am listening to throughout the day.
  4. Take a nap – Our bodies naturally feel tired at 1pm and 4pm every day. This is common, so why are we avoiding it? I understand that not everyone has the luxury to go to sleep when their body is tired, but fortunately I do. Starting in January, I vow to take a nap every day at 1pm. This way I know my body is getting the sleep it needs, and it allows me to be more present with my tutoring students.

As you can see in the picture, I have set up a resolutions chart. I will be checking off every day that I accomplish the tasks I have written out. Associated with this chart is also a quote that I will incorporate into everything I do for the month of January. In each preceding month, I will have something similar.

I am so excited to begin my happiness project. I really think this is going to change my outlook on life, and cause me to vibe at a higher energy. Since we attract what we put out, I truly believe by increasing my happiness I will be increasing many more things in my life! Stay tuned of February’s resolution chart!
